We proudly care for pets in San Francisco.

Our commitment to you is to continue to offer our world-class service and a state-of-the-art veterinary facility.

Your pet’s annual vet check-up will include a total physical exam, with a thorough investigation of your pet’s head, body, and tail and all their assorted cavities. Because even the most cooperative pet may not readily go along with a tooth and gum brushing, an annual cleaning by your veterinarian may be in order. Like you, your pet can lose their teeth due to decay and neglect. It’s a good idea to keep an accurate medical diary not only of the procedures and vaccinations your pet receives at the vet but also of notes on things like your pet’s elimination habits and any physical changes or unusual occurrences. Keep track of small shifts in your pet’s behavior, including urinary marking habits and mood swings, along with diet and routine modifications. Take this notebook when you visit the vet. These seemingly unrelated occurrences may help explain the results of your pet’s medical tests. Also, if you need to change vets, it’s good to have this journal to provide a complete medical history.

Choose a veterinarian who is calm, compassionate, and willing to explain all the procedures your pet undergoes. Try to find a vet with whom both you and your pet feel comfortable. Try to have it convenient. Choose a clinic with qualified staff and facilities to undertake surgery and perform procedures requiring anesthesia, such as teeth cleaning. Because of the general risks inherent to anesthesia—especially for very old, very young, or very ill pets—your veterinarian will likely suggest a few exams, including a chest X-ray and lab work of blood and urine, before your pet is anesthetized. During the procedure, they might need an IV drip; antibiotics may be necessary before and after.

Dr. Singla may refer you to a specialist—a veterinarian who has completed advanced studies in specialties such as internal medicine, surgery, and emergency care—if your pet must undergo a procedure that requires more precise knowledge and experience.

Dr. Caroline Kim, DVM

Dr. Kim's Bio
Dr. Caroline Kim joined the staff at Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital in the fall of 2019. As a 7-year-old girl, she always had dreams of becoming a veterinarian. A native of San Francisco, Dr. Kim attended Lowell High School. During her summers, she volunteered for her very first job as a kennel assistant right here at Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital. She remembers working late hours cleaning cages and feeding the hospitalized patients back when Dr. McElroy owned the practice.

She went on to pursue her undergraduate career at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. In 1992 she graduated cum laude from the pre-medical program with a Bachelor’s degree in Science. She majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry. She returned to California to attend veterinary school at the University of California at Davis. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1996.

Dr. Kim has a particular interest in surgery. She completed a surgical externship at the Animal Medical Center in New York in 1995. She is certified in performing Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) cases and has a great interest in orthopedics. She also received training in laparoscopic surgery at the Oquendo Center in Las Vegas.

Before coming to Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Kim worked for almost 20 years in the Marina-Pacific Heights neighborhood. After a large corporation bought her hospital, she decided to look for another practice owned and operated by veterinarians. She came full circle when she met Dr. Singla and found her new work family at Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital. She believes that this practice has done a great job of keeping up its close ties to the local community. It has a warm, neighborhood feel while maintaining a high quality of service, along with futuristic upgrades in technology.

Dr. Kim is a member of the California Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and is APHIS certified. When she is not caring for her patients, Dr. Kim spends time with her human family and her two orange cats at her home in San Francisco.

Dr. Magrey's Bio

My dad was employed at a University where I spent my whole education career from kindergarten up until my 4th year DVM and post-graduation. In the Junior branch of the University school as a student, after school hours, I used to sneak through the veterinary facility to go to my dad’s office. I saw teaching staff & DVM students dealing with pets and large animals. These moments are the beginning of my interest in veterinary sciences.

I started working in a small animal hospital in February 2011 in Canada. I came to California in 2015 to secure a California Veterinary license and worked for five months, and went back to Canada. Then I joined Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital in August 2020. Conversations with professors stayed embedded in my mind and I had a dream which God materialized and now I am here.

Dr. Mishra's Bio

I was brought up in a village in Nepal where farm animals are part of a family. As a kid, we were allowed to watch day-to-day farm activities but were not allowed to get involved. As we grew up, I got an opportunity to pursue Veterinary science from the college of veterinary science Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana, Punjab, India. I graduated from vet school in 2015 and earned a master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine in 2017. I worked for a corporate veterinary practice in New Delhi for a year. While working as a veterinary doctor in India, I got a Research Assistant opportunity from the Department of Animal Science at the University of Hawaii in 2019. While studying at the University of Hawaii, I started my ECFVG certification procedure. Following the completion of ECFVG certification, I joined the Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital family in August 2022. As a veterinarian, I think veterinary facilities should be available for everyone. In my free time, I like to drive to new places and try new food.
